HOW IT IS ASSESSED

Orientation only, via the Foundations checks; not a graded or credentialed assessment.

LIMITATIONS

Indicates orientation only. Not a qualification, license, or certification; does not replace employer training, supervision, or professional judgment.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE · 5

  • Runs the process to the approved parameters and stops when a parameter moves outside them, rather than correcting it quietly back into range.
  • Completes the batch record step by step as the work happens, including the steps that record something did not occur.
  • Reports an unexpected result — a yield, an in-process check, an alarm — before the batch moves on, not at the end of the shift.
  • Recognises which deviations from the written procedure require a deviation record and which are within the latitude the procedure gives.
  • Keeps the equipment and area in their qualified and cleaned state, and can say when that state was last confirmed.

HOW IT IS DEMONSTRATED AT WORK

The evidence is in the batch records and the deviation log together. A supervisor would look for records completed in sequence with real times, in-process checks recorded whether or not they were convenient, and deviations raised by this operator rather than found later by review. An operator who has never raised one is either working an exceptionally stable process or is not raising them.

WHERE IT IS COMMONLY WEAK

It weakens where the procedure and the plant have drifted apart. When the written method no longer matches how the line actually runs, an experienced operator bridges the gap from memory and the record stops describing the process — which is invisible until the person who knew the gap leaves, or an inspector reads the procedure and watches the line. The second pattern is the small correction made inside the alarm band and never recorded, because nothing went wrong.
