  • Treats the shipment’s temperature history as part of the product’s quality, and does not release on the basis that it arrived on time.
  • Assesses an excursion against the product’s stability data and the approved allowance, rather than against how far outside the range it went.
  • Qualifies the lane and the packaging for the conditions it will actually meet, including the worst season and the longest hold.
  • Verifies the customer or supplier is entitled to receive or supply the product before the transaction, not after.
  • Keeps the chain traceable in both directions so a recall can be executed against a list rather than an estimate.

HOW IT IS DEMONSTRATED AT WORK

Look for excursion assessments that reference stability data and reach a decision either way, and for a lane qualification that considered the seasonal extreme rather than the day it was performed. A recall simulation is the strongest evidence available without an actual recall: it shows whether the traceability records return a defensible list in the time the procedure claims.

WHERE IT IS COMMONLY WEAK

It fails at the handover points, which are also the points nobody owns. A shipment sits on a dock between two qualified legs; the monitor is started late or read after the goods were put away; an excursion is assessed against the alarm setting rather than against what the product can tolerate. Entitlement checks weaken in the opposite way — they are done thoroughly at onboarding and never repeated, so a licence that lapsed two years ago is still on file as evidence.
