A fit-out concentrates the contamination-control and qualification work of a facility into classified space specifically — often inside an existing building, so it carries brownfield tie-in constraints with greenfield-level cleanroom rigor.

What decides whether a cleanroom can be qualified?
Design, mostly. Pressure cascades, airflow, surface finishes, and material and personnel flows determine whether a room can hold its classification and be cleaned — and those are fixed in design and construction, not in qualification. A cleanroom built to a compromised design cannot be qualified into compliance no matter how the protocols are written; the fix is rework of the physical space.
How does a fit-out relate to the contamination control strategy?
It is a large part of it. The facility and engineering controls a site’s contamination control strategy documents — HVAC, pressure regime, segregation, monitoring — are largely built and qualified during a cleanroom fit-out. Getting the design and qualification right here is what makes the site’s Annex 1 contamination control strategy defensible rather than aspirational.
